How much does hiring a skip cost?
Hiring a skip is relatively simple, you will need to consider a number of factors such as skip size, location, space for the skip and permits all contribute to the cost of your skip hire. You can get an estimate for your skip service by filling in our Instant Quote Form.
Please note, items such as Road Permits are not included in the price calculation and will need to be added after.
What items are NOT allowed in my skip?
The majority of skips are designed for inert general waste. Changes in legislation mean that the following items are not permitted to be put into your skip:
- Fluorescent lights
- Paint pots containing paint
- Wet Waste
- Oil and other accelerants
- Medical and clinical waste
- Gas Bottles
- Plasterboard - separate skip required - sometime a 10% allowance is granted

Where can I put my skip?
You can put a skip anywhere on your own property as long as we can access the area to drop off and pick up the skip safely. If you cannot put the skip on your own property it may be possible to arrange a Skip Permit to put the skip on the road. We're more than happy to arrange this for you at (please note the permit itself will be an additional fee based on your local council tariff).
Please note that loaded skips can be very heavy, and can therefore cause damage to soft ground such as gravel and tracks, paths, paving or tarmac driveways. If you need advice on how to overcome this please contact us.
What access is required?
The skip will be delivered on an LGV (Light Goods Vehicle), so you need to be certain that the skip location is accessible, clear and also allows you or visitors access to the site. Our skip lorries require at least 3.2m (10.5ft) width and 6m (20ft) height to safely access properties.
Will my waste be recycled?
We and our subcontractors have a strong commitment to the environment and aim to recycle at least 85% of your waste. Waste companies can achieve quite a variable amount of recycling, but we try to work only with suppliers who fall in the higher percentages.
What are the rules and regulations around skip hire?
When hiring a skip to remove rubbish from your house, flat or even garden, you may be unaware of the environmental and safety regulations surrounding skip hire that may affect you.
Our aim is to highlight some of the issues regarding domestic skip hire and what risks you could put yourself and others at, if they are not adhered to.
What advice do you have to prevent fly tipping in skips?
Whilst not a big issue in your area, fly tipping could be something you may face whether the skip is kept on private or public land and is something that you should be vigilant about.
In the eyes of the law, you are responsible for the waste that is placed into the skip you hire. The illegal practise of fly tipping is dangerous, as there is good chance you don't know exactly what has been thrown into the skip as well as the possibility of it being over filled causing hazards for passers by. We recommend using a cover for your skip if it is kept on site overnight may be advisable, alternatively you could order a closed skip that can be locked.
Can a skip be placed over my wall?
This is indeed possible, but it's important to notify us before delivery. Skip Local cannot be held responsible to any damage caused in this process.
How full can I load my skip?
For safety reasons you should not fill your skip beyond the the top of the skip. If it is over-filled it becomes unsafe to transport and excess charges may apply.
How long can I hire the skip?
In most cases we will collect skips 1-2 weeks after delivery. You can request an earlier uplift if required. Be aware that permits, where required, may have a specific deadline that must be adhered to.
What is included in the skip hire price?
The skip hire cost includes the actual hire of the skip, plus delivery and collection. The fee does not include any other equipment, permits or any clean up costs.
What types of payment are accepted?
Skip Local accepts cash and credit/debit cards (excluding Diners and Amex). Instant bank transfers and cheques are acceptable in certain circumstances but must be agreed in advance.
What happens if I need to cancel or delay my skip delivery?
In the unlikely event of a skip delivery being delayed we need to be informed the same day. Skips cancelled less than 24 hours before the scheduled delivery are subject to an administration fee of £20 +VAT.
